Needles Cross Country Half Marathon 2010

Needles Cross Country Half Marathon 2010

This popular annual event organised by the West Wight Road Runners was held on Sunday 30th May in very good conditions. A field of 199 athletes took to the undulating yet scenic course an increase of some 30 people on last year with a record 196 finishing the race. There were a large number of entries from New Forest Runners and the New Eltham Joggers in this the largest ever field for the event. The Men’s winner was Paul Cameron (Isle of Wight Road Runners) in a time of 1:22:44 repeating his achievement of last year followed by Ian Kitching (South London Harriers) in second clocking 1:27:09 and James Ketteringham (Wreake Runners) in 1:31:37. The Ladies were led home by Gail Walters (New Forest Runners) in 1:45:01 with Laura Brackley (Unattached) in second in a time of 1:46:47 and Jane Morgan (Hardley Runners) in third place in 1:50:38.

A vote of thanks must go to the organisers and marshals who were worked tirelessly to put on a first class event which is never easy, particularly on a bank holiday weekend - “Great course with some stunning scenery and some really helpful encouraging marshals along the way”.

Particular mention must go to the West Wight Sport Centre and its staff, Eric Critchison, Ian Jolliffe, Cherry and Bob Owens, Fieron Walsh, Ed Garbett, Sue Scott, Anne Ballinghall and Madeline Goodman (the organising committee) for their efforts to make the race the success that it was on the day.
